What does crystalline waterproofing actually do?

The chemistry reacts with moisture and free lime inside the concrete and grows crystals into the capillary network, blocking it permanently. The protection ends up inside the structure rather than sitting on top of it where it can be scraped or weathered off.

Does it work on old concrete?

Yes, provided the surface is opened up so the slurry can reach the capillaries. Very old, carbonated concrete may need repair mortar first — we will say so at inspection rather than after starting.

Can it be applied to a wet surface?

It needs a damp surface, which is one of its advantages. It is one of the few systems that can be applied while the structure is still holding moisture.
